The Queen’s Corgi – Booking Form

The ‘Friends of Ditcham Park School’ are excited to present ‘Ditcham Cinema’.

We are holding a film event for the children in Juniors on Friday 27th September 2019. We will be showing the film:

‘The Queens Corgi’

This is a PG-rated movie about Rex the Queen’s Top Dog – a spoilt little corgi who lives a life of luxury in Buckingham Palace. But when Rex winds up in a London Dog’s Home, surrounded by tough strays, he must learn that to become a true Top Dog, you have to earn it!

The cost of the event will be £6 per child and will include a Pizza or Hot Dog Dinner. The film will start at 4.15 pm and will be finished by 6 pm. Parents are welcome to join us if they wish for this screening. Children are welcome to bring a small pillow, blanket and/or cuddly toy to make themselves snuggly while watching the movie! Please bring into school in a named bag and ensure that all items are labelled.

We will be running a small ‘tuck shop’ just like at the real cinema for children to buy sweets and popcorn for the film. Please send any small change in a purse for the children to use at the event! We hope that you will join us for this event, if your child would like to attend, please fill in the slip below and return it to the office marked ‘Ditcham Cinema’.

Spaces are limited so please return your slips to the school office ASAP and by Friday 20th September.

2019 Bids are off to a great start!

At the recent Committee meeting, FDPS received four bids. Three of these have been successful, with the fourth currently under review following some updates.

World Book Day Storyteller:

Mrs Helen Parrott, Head of Junior School, and Mrs Julie Mothersele, UJ Class Teacher, submitted a bid to join in with the fun of World Book Day on 7th March 2019. Acclaimed storyteller and author of children’s books, John Harris will visit the school of Friday 1 March to work with Junior children in an imaginative and engaging way. This is a precursor to World Book Day when the children will explore tales from around the World, and the children will enjoy activities linked to different countries. John Harris has been described as “spellbinding” and specialises in folk tales, fairy tales, myhts and legends. For more information on John’s books, please visit: www.johnharristhestoryteller.com.

Early Morning Club Resources:

The Early Morning Club runs from 7:50am – 8:30am every morning. Claire Falla and Kimberly Read supervise the children during this time in the library, but resources are limited – until now! They were looking to provide children with opportunities other than computers, particularly for the younger children, during this time; they will share their supplies of board games and art materials when they have them.

Road Signs, designed by Pupils:

Denise Allen, Bursar at Ditcham Park School, has been successful in her bid for eight pupil-designed road signs to be put up on school grounds. Last term, some of the Junior pupils were tasked with producing creative speed awareness road signs for the school, in line with the School’s road safety awareness scheme. Four designs were selected by the Junior Management team and the Headmaster. We look forward to seeing the finished designs!

Under Review:

A fourth bid is currently under review. It was suggested the School requires two additional high quality, durable benches – particularly for Seniors at lunchtime and for parents to sit comfortably whilst watching matches. These could be communal benches (not fixed) or circular benches around a tree to provide shade in the summer. The bid was received before the recent installation of the new circular bench around the tree by the main entrance. The committee welcomed the idea of more benches around the school grounds and decided to postpone the vote until alternative options are sourced and reviewed.

Bird Box bid

Last year’s junior school council put in a successful bid to FDPS who kindly bought this brilliant bird box for all the junior children to enjoy. It comes kitted out with a camera which means that the images from inside the box can be watched live in our whiteboards. With spring coming up we’re bound to be in for a treat/tweet!
