Back to School & a springtime challenge!

Happy Sunday Morning!  I hope the start of the Spring term is going well for you all.  I expect, like me,  many of you were grateful of the arrival of the first weekend to recover from the “shock” of “back to school”, and being back in the old routine again!?!

With the turn of the New Year, my thoughts turn once again (!) to reinvigorating my health, wellbeing and fitness routines – with varying degrees of success 😉 I am most certainly not a natural athlete though I do love the great outdoors.   With Spring arriving soon I am certainly looking forward to shifting a few of those Christmas and New Years pounds, and  a few lunchtime and weekend walks around Ditcham and surrounding areas will help I’m sure 🙂

During last term, I was approached by Rural Running Events, who offered to organise a trail run (based at Ditcham Park) and, with the generous support of the School’s Headmaster Mr Spawforth and the rest of the School’s leadership team in granting permission to use Ditcham as a venue, I am pleased to say that preparations are well under way and the event is now open for entries!   So, here is your challenge for Spring 2018.. to train for a 5K or 10K trail run based at Ditcham Park – can you show our Ditcham pupils how to do it?

The event date is Sunday 29th April 2018.  The route is currently being confirmed, but will be “challenging” given Ditcham’s location at the top of a hill and involve trail, woodland and road sections.  Each competitor who completes the course will receive some “awesome bling”… and you will set the inaugural event route PBs.

With thanks to the organisers, a donation from the proceeds of this event will be made to both FDPS and also Brain Tumour Research (many of you will know that I lost my brother to the disease last May).  I am hoping that if the event is a success that in subsequent years we can earn a donation to other charities close to our hearts.

Hoping you’ll support the event, I’m told there are a good number of entries already and – with limited spaces – I urge you to enter asap by heading over to Rural Running Events’ website.

FDPS are finalising their involvement, but will certainly be providing refreshments for supporters and runners at the event.  If you’d like to help serve these please do let us know by emailing [email protected] or via our contact page.

All best
